I lost my best friend in a car accident when I was 16, and as you can imagine, it was incredibly tough. But that wasn’t the reason I left school. I’d already been on this path toward questioning religion and questioning my place within it. I had always been a reader and a sceptic, so when I was old enough to break away from organised religion, it just came naturally." (1)
Ihren Schulabschluss machte sie mit Hilfe von Fernkursen.
"I didn’t drop out of school; I placed out. I took correspondence courses and ended up graduating early." (2)
Mit 17 entschied sie sich nach Los Angeles zu gehen, um Schauspielerin zu werden.
"By the time I was 17 I was on my way to Hollywood and didn’t look back. My family is supportive now, but like any adult guardian of a 17-year-old daughter, they were not thrilled with my plan to run off to LA to make it as an actress. Even a somewhat functioning parent would think that was a bad idea. Lucky for me I didn’t listen to them." (3)
Dort arbeitete Amber Heard zunächst als Model, bis sie 2004 in "FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - TOUCHDOWN AM FREITAG" ihr Filmdebüt gab.
Danach folgten Rollen in "SIDEFX" (2004), "DROP DEAD SEXY" (2005), "KALTES LAND" (2006) und "ALPHA DOG - TÖDLICHE FREUNDSCHAFTEN" (2006), bis sie 2006 in dem Horrorfilm "ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE" ihre erste Hauptrolle spielte.
Danach sah man Amber Heard in Filmen wie "PRICE TO PAY" (2006), "YOU ARE HERE" (2007), "THE FIGHTERS" (2008), "INFORMERS" (2008), in den drei Komödien "EXTERMINATORS" (2009), "THE JONESES" (2009) und "ZOMBIELAND" (2009) sowie in den beiden Horrorfilmen "THE WARD" (2010) und
"DRIVE ANGRY" (2011), indem sie die meisten der Stunts selbst machte.
"It’s not something I’m proud of, and I’m trying hard to learn how to drive better. I grew up driving old pickup trucks on the ranch with my dad, and I still find myself driving as if I’m out in an open field, except I’m in LA, on La Cienega, in the middle of rush-hour traffic.
When I was preparing for Drive Angry the stunt coordinator took me out to the parking lot to show me how to spin out and fishtail and do all the things you’re not supposed to know how to do. After two seconds of being a passenger in my car, he realised it was an exercise in futility – because I had that shit down." (5)
2011 konnte sie sich für die Rolle der CHENAULT in "RUM DIARY" (2011) gegen Konkurrentinnen wie Keira Knightley und Scarlett Johansson durchsetzen. Während der Dreharbeiten zu dem Film lernte sie den Schauspielerin Johnny Depp kennen.
Die beiden wurden ein Paar, woraufhin sich Heard 2012 von ihrer Lebensgefährtin, der Fotografin Tasya van Ree, und Johny Depp von seiner Lebensgefährtin, der französischen Sängerin und Schauspielerin Vanessa Paradis, trennten.
Nachdem Heard und Depp 2014 ihre Verlobung bekannt gaben, heirateten sie am 4. Februar 2015. Doch die Ehe hielt nicht lange. Nach Gewaltvorwürfen gegen ihren Ehemann, reichte Amber Heard am 26. Mai 2016 die Scheidung ein. Am 13. Januar 2017 wurde die Ehe der beiden Schauspieler schließlich geschieden.
Nach ihrer Rolle in "RUM DIARY", sah man Amber Heard in Filmen wie "PARANOIA - RISKANTES SPIEL" (2013), "MACHETE KILLS" (2013), "3 DAYS TO KILL" (2014), "ONE MORE TIME" (2015) und "THE DANISH GIRL" (2015).
In 2017 wird die Schauspielerin gleich in mehreren Filmen zu sehen sein. Neben "WHAT'S THE POINT" und "LONDON FIELDS" auch in der Comicverfilmung "JUSTICE LEAGUE", in der sie die MERA spielen wird. In dieser Rolle wird sie auch in dem Film "AQUAMAN" zu sehen sein, der 2018 in die Kinos kommen wird.
